Samsara is a film which in my opinion is just impossible to stop watching. (Of course the weaker characters might do so)  Ron Fricke's followup to the memorable Baraka offers a great spectacle using large format cameras. The shots bring you so close to very different worlds within and tell a wonderful tale of human beliefs. Film barely gives you time to process where you're looking or what you're looking at, but offers a great excitement when showing places you never knew existed.

/Samsara je film, ktorý sa podľa mňa nedá prestať pozerať. (Ikeď tie slabšie charaktery to možno nevydržia ;) Ostatný film Rona Fricke nasleduje po jeho už známom dokumente Baraka a ponúka jedinečný pohľad na svet vďaka použitiu kamier vysokého rozlíšenia. Zábery vás prenesú do veľmi odlišných zákutí Zeme a rozprávajú pútavý príbeh ľudskej viery. Film len ledva dáva divákovi možnosť uvedomiť si na čo sa práve pozerá, no podáva vyrušujúce zábery miest, o ktorých existencii ste ani netušili.

Dear Friend...

I must say that I didn't have great expectations about the film The Perks of Being a Wallflower. It seemed like a very simple american high school story at first. But it is much more than that. I think the fact that it's based on a true story of the filmmaker's life makes it incredibly fascinating and amusing at times. It might be a story like any other, but the way it has been said and captured is really appealing. After all it offers something that is very true and that is : "If you don't record your stories they might one day be forgotten."

/Musím povedať, že zo začiatku som od filmu The Perks of Being a Wallflower veľa neočakávala. Zdal sa mi ako obyčajný americký príbeh stredoškoláka. Je v ňom však čosi viac. Možno práve to, že je nakrútený podľa skutočných zážitkov režiséra ho robí fascinujúcim a v určitých momentoch neuveriteľne zábavným. Môže to byť príbeh ako ktorýkoľvek íný, no spôsob jeho rozprávania je veľmi pútavý. Nakoniec ponúka jednu veľkú pravdu, ktorá je: "Ak nezaznamenáš svoje príbehy, jedného dňa sa môžu stať zabudnutými."

The Greatest Romance

I planned to watch Casablanca since always...but there was never the right moment until today. Well fifth anniversary of being able to live together with my man was a reason enough and so we watched the biggest romance classic there is, and I have to admit it is a classic for a reason.

/Casablacu som si plánovala pozrieť už asi odjakživa...no nikdy som nenašla ten správny momnet až dodnes. Piate výročie spoločného života s mužom bol dostatočný dôvod na to aby sme si pozreli tú najväčšiu romantickú klasiku, ktorá existuje, a po jej zhliadnutí musím potvrdiť, že je to klasika ako sa patrí.

Projecting Illusion

To anyone who comes across this virtual space of mine...
I must admit that I am a film and TV junkie in the first place. (As I hope many of you are too) After some years studying Film criticism I decided to forget all the intellectual crap and start writing about the things I love and get inspiration from.
I borrowed the name of my blog from Richard Allen's book "PROJECTING ILLUSION: Film Spectatorship and the Impression of Reality". This book killed me,,,and who knows maybe one day I'll say that it changed my life, because based on Allen's thoughts on viewers experience of visual representation I have decided to start my own blog about the power of Film and audiovisual entertainment. As you see I can't  cut the intellectual crap completely. Not quite yet anyway ;)


/Pre všetkých, ktorí sa náhodou pristavia v tomto mojom virtuálnom priestore...
V prvom rade sa musím priznať, že som priam závislá na sledovaní filmov a televízie. (Dúfam, že ste na tom podobne) Po pár rokoch štúdia Filmovej Vedy som sa rozhodla zabudnúť na všetky tie prehnané intelektuálne kecy a začať písať o tom, čo ma na filmoch fascinuje a inšpiruje.
Názov tohto blogu som si požičala od Richarda Allena. Jeho kniha,,,a pokúsim sa to doslovne preložiť "Projektívna ilúzia: Filmové diváctvo a dojem reality,,, ma doslova zabila.  A ktovie možno jedného dňa poviem, že mi zmenila život :) lebo vďaka Allenovým myšlienkam o diváckom prežívaní  vizuálnej reprezentácie som sa rozhodla písať vlastný blog o sile filmu a audiovizuálnej zábavy. Ako vidíte zatiaľ sa mi  nedarí vynechať tie intelektuálne kecy úplne. No chce to asi čas ;)
